Commercial Water Damage to Local Business

4/18/2018 (Permalink)

This local sport rehab center had a leak over the weekend. When the team arrived all the floors were buckled; it was clear what needed to be done. Our crew worked with the business owners schedule and took the proper steps in assessing and amending the damage that was done. Our team tore up the floor panels and used air movers to rid of all the water. The cleanup process was effective and hasty thanks to our team members of SERVPRO of Lower Manhattan knowing just what to do thanks to their experience. You can see from the picture here all the water has been removed. Our customer was very pleased with the turnout and grateful for us that she did not lose business during such a tough time.

Commercial Ceiling Repair

This particular job was for one of our clients who experienced troubles after a pipe burst in their parking garage. Not pictured here is the damage that took place on the ceiling of the garage. The ceiling had air pockets that were swelling up with water inside them. This type of damage can lead to a number of other issues including mold. Our client was lucky they called us when they did or this could have gotten much worse.  Our crew went in with SERVPRO tools and the damage was fixed hastily. The picture on the right is the ceiling once it’s been patched up and restored to its original condition. Our client was very happy with the results and noted that it was done way sooner than anticipated.

Preventing Home Fires

There is a long list of causes when it comes to home fires. They're beginning to become a commonality. When you're victim of a house fire you lose everything; all the memories you've made, burnt to a crisp.

Some practices to preventing a fire in your home are as follows:

    • Make sure everything is switched OFF and unplugged
    • Check/Inspect your chimney annually
    •  Keep comforters and anything flammable away from heaters
    • Test fire alarms/ replace batteries frequently
    • Never smoke in the home
    • Keep a spoon or spatula as a reminder when cooking/ do not leave stove tops unattended when lit

It is widely recommended that families practice a fire escape route in the event a fire does occur. No one sees a fire coming and it's best you know what plan of action to take in case you're faced with one.

In the event your home has endured a fire, call SERVPRO of Lower Manhattan at 212-564-6365 and we'll make it, "Like it never even happened."

Water Damage

While water is vital to our existence it can lead to a number of issues. Too much water is definitely a problem many individuals face on a day to day basis. Here at SERVPRO Lower Manhattan we've seen a great deal of flood incidents. Pictured in the photo you see the ceiling panels beginning to slouch down as a result of flooding. The water is absorbed by the panels and if not treated properly can lead to a case of mold (which is another service SERVPRO provides). Our crew went into this job with the acquired skill that comes with doing this so often. They removed all the water from the job and then worked from there. The owner of the building was thrilled that we could fix as much as we did.

Water Damage in Local University

Living with roommates can have its ups and downs. Each person has to adjust to the other person's idiosyncrasies. One thing that definitely will not help the relationship blossom is water damage in your dorm room! This was exactly the case wit a local university. There was water damage in one dorm room that eventually effected multiple other units in the facility. Water left untreated can lead to mold, which is a health risk. We care about our local universities and the students that make them up. Pictured here is the moisture reader reading a 99.9% water in the dorm room. SERVPRO of Lower Manhattan consistently monitored the moisture readings to make sure we removed all the water from each dorm room. We make it "Like it never even happened."

Mold Removal VS. Mold Remediation

4/11/2018 (Permalink)

Since microscopic mold spores exist naturally almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors, removing all mold from a home or business is impossible. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold. This is a fallacy.

A qualified restoration company understands the science behind mold and mold growth. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals have the training and expertise to remediate the mold in your home or business. Mold remediation focuses on getting mold levels back to normal, natural levels.

Every mold damage scenario is different and requires a unique solution, but the general mold remediation process stays the same. To learn more about our mold remediation process.

  • Step 1: Emergency Contact 1-800-SERVPRO
  • Step 2: Inspection and Mold Damage Assessment
  • Step 3: Mold Containment
  • Step 4: Air Filtration
  • Step 5: Removing Mold and Mold-Infested Materials
  • Step 6: Cleaning Contents and Belongings
  • Step 7: Restoration
  • When water intrudes into your property, mold growth can start in as little as 48 hours. Consider the following mold facts:

    • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
    • Mold spores are microscopic, float along in the air, and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
    • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants and have the potential to cause other health effects.
    • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
    • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor, and that odor can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
    • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
